Cumberland, MD – Samuel Leon Robinette, 76, of Cumberland, MD, passed away Thursday, July 27, 2017, at Cumberland Healthcare Center.
Born July 19, 1941, in Bowling Green, MD, Mr. Robinette was the son of the late Arch Elijah Robinette and Iona Elizabeth (Cadwalder) Robinette. He was also preceded in death by a brother: Blaine R. Robinette.
Sam attended Hyndman High School and was a United States Army Veteran during the Vietnam War where he was stationed three miles from DMZ. Prior to joining the Army, he worked construction with his father laying foundations. Sam was formerly employed at Pennsylvania Steel Mill, Murphy’s Furniture Store, and Artmoor Plastics. He was the bingo master at HRDC. Sam was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #245, Cumberland, MD, and Aerie #2883, Cresaptown, MD. Sam enjoyed traveling, camping, watching game shows, westerns, and murder mystery shows. He loved to eat, and enjoyed playing pool with his pool partner, Steve Cornachia.
Sam is survived by his wife of 27 years: Sally Robinette; and his stepdaughter: Samanthe Robey. He also leaves behind his step grandchildren: Adrienne Robey and Shantell Robey; and four step great grandchildren. Sam is also survived by his brothers: Walter “Tom” Robinette and wife, Charlotte; and Steve Robinette and girlfriend, Donna Wells; his sisters: Rosemary Twigg and husband, Chris; and Sandra “Sue” Detrick and husband, Paul; his sister-in-law: Mary Robinette; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, MD, on Monday, July 31, 2017, from 12:00 P.M. to 1:00 P.M.
A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday, July 31, 2017, at 1:00 P.M., with Reverend Bernadette Ross officiating.
Interment will be in the Maryland Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap.
Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the Post #13 Veterans Honor Guard.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Western Maryland Health System for all the care and compassion given to Sam.
