Patrick Leo Himmler Thursday, April 11, 1935 - Tuesday, August 1, 2017

Cumberland, MD – Patrick Leo Himmler, 82, of Cumberland, MD, peacefully passed away at home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, August 1, 2017.
 
Mr. Himmler was born April 11, 1935, in Cumberland, MD, to the late Charles R. and Dolly T. (Kreger) Himmler.  Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by a son: P. Michael Himmler; a brother: James William Himmler; two sisters: Anna Mae (Lease) Randall and Jane Ellen Mitchell.
 
Patrick in his youth attended Saint Patrick's grade school.  Upon graduating from LaSalle High School in 1954, he served his country in the United States Air Force.  He was stationed at McGuire Air Force Base while he spent several months at the Pentagon on special assignment.  After his honorable discharge, he met and married
his sweetheart Frances Marie Messenger.  They were married on August 16, 1958, at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
 
He began his career working for the Cumberland City Fire Department.  He retired from the Kelly Springfield Tire Company, distribution center at Mexico Farms.
 
Pat was a lifelong University of Notre Dame fan.  After retirement, Pat was very active in his church as a Eucharistic minister, money counter, and genealogist.  He and his wife of 59 years enjoyed traveling.  They traveled to Canada, Alaska, and the western coast of the United States, Ireland, and Italy.  He served as 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus 586.  He also volunteered for 16 years in the outpatient department at Sacred Heart Hospital.  He, too, was a member of the Genealogical Society of Allegany County and the Sampson Air Force Base Veterans Association.
 
Patrick is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Frances Marie (Messenger) Himmler; and two children: Linda Katherine Bayline and husband, Tink, Salisbury, MD; and Christopher Leo Himmler and wife, Pam Cumberland, MD.  He leaves behind five grandchildren: Christina Greathouse, Elizabeth Gravenor,
Stephanie Himmler, Sarah Walters and Ian Joseph Walters and seven great grandchildren.  He is also survived by a brother: Charles Himmler and wife, Suzanne, Frostburg, MD; and six nephews: Tony and Brian Himmler, Mike Mitchell, Steve Randall, Mike Lease, and Rick Lease; and nieces: Sharon Delligatti and Theresa Lease; two sisters-in-law: Sandy Spiker and husband, Rick, Fellowsville, WV; Donna Messenger, Charleston, WV;  and a brother-in-law: Ralph Messenger and wife, Mel, Kingwood, WV.
 
Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, MD, on Thursday, August 3, 2017, from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M., and from 7:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M.  The Rosary will be recited.
 
A memorial mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Mountains Parish, SS. Peter and Paul Shrine, on Friday, August 4, 2017, at 10:00 A.M.
 
Interment will be in SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery.
 
Pallbearers will be Ian Joseph Walters, Jamie Wilson, Rodney Wilson, Steve Randall, Bryan Greathouse, Tony Himmler, and Brian Himmler.  Honorary pallbearers will be his classmates from LaSalle High School class of 1954 William Kegg, Galen McKenzie, James Shaffer, Clem Helmstetter, Frank Wolfe, Thomas Wigger, Frank Daccina, Dr. Leo Franklin, Jim Williams and Bob Williams.

We were so sorry to hear about Pat. We want you, Fran and family to know yous are in our thoughts and prayers. We remember Pat fondly. God Bless...Linda and Jerry Brockey.

I offer my deepest condolences to the Himmler family.  Isaiah 25:8 says that He will swallow up death forever, And the Sovereign Lord Jehovah will wipe away the tears from all faces.

I pray that this scripture brings some comfort to the family during their time of bereavement.
