Luvernie York-Taylor Sunday, December 28, 1924 - Tuesday, February 7, 2017

Cumberland, MD – Luvernie York-Taylor, 92, of Cumberland, MD, went home to be with our Lord on Tuesday, February 7, 2017, at her home.
 
Born December 28, 1924, in Bashir, AL, Mrs. Taylor was the daughter of the late George Watkins and Pearl Watkins.  She was also preceded in death by her husbands: Jesse York, Sr., and Jacob D. Taylor, Jr.; her children: Luke York, Jesse York, II, John York, Ester York, Ruthie Turner, Margie York, Sissy Monroe, Josephine Clark, and Annabelle Clark; her brothers: McKinley, J.D., Colis, and L.J. Watkins; her sisters: Jessie Lee Watkins-White;Ida Mae Patterson; Ella Mae Watkins, and Jessie Mae McShane; and a great grandson: Tyrell York.
 
Luvernie worked for Mr. and Mrs. George Young for over 40 years.  She was a member of the Metropolitan A.M.E. Church, and a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star.  Luvernie also attended the Ebenezer Baptist Church and the McKendree United Methodist Church for a number of years where she sang in the choir and was a deaconess.  Luvernie was well known in the community.  She was the matriarch of not only the York Family but also Glenwood Street.  Her door was always open and she enjoyed cooking and having friends and family stop by for visits and long-term stays.  Luvernie represented five generations of the York Family.
 
Luvernie is survived by her daughter: Darlene York; her sons: James T. York; David York; Daniel York; Jackson Myers; Rylan Myers and wife, Andrea; and her daughters-in-law: Saundra York, Debbie York, and Dallas York.  She also leaves behind her sister-in-law: Mary Jane Twyman; her sisters: Hessie Law, and Arlena Watkins-McShane; as well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and great-great-great grandchildren.
 
Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, MD, on Monday, February 13, 2017, from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M.
 
A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday, February 13, 2017, at 12:00 Noon with Rev. Dr. J. Anthony Josey and Pastor Floyd Bender officiating.
 
Interment will be in Maryland Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap.

Mrs. Taylor brought such JOY to everyone! I know she will certainly be missed. Just letting you know that your "extended family" from Souls Won Outreach Cathedral and the Watkins family are still praying for you and yours! Blessings, love and peace!

We the Metropolitan AME Church family thank you for loaning Sis. York-Taylor to our church family. She was a blessing to all and her labour in our vineyard will forever be treasured. She has now gone from labour to reward, rest well thy good and faithful servant!

Words are never enough so id like send prayers to the family. May God and his angel take care of her as she did for many here on earth..

Sorry to hear about the passing of Ms. York. I will always remember her as sweet lady. Always, a smile on her face and the time to stop and chat for awhile. Jimmy Biggs and I had many interesting talks with her over the years. (Hugs)
