Cumberland, MD – Leslie Maria (Farrell) Layman, 29, of Cumberland, MD, died Monday, June 12, 2017, at her home.
 
Born June 14, 1987, in Cumberland, MD, Maria was the daughter of Suzanne Bridges Macy and husband, John, LaVale, MD, and Thomas W. Farrell and his partner, Krystyna Poray Goddu, Cumberland, MD.
 
Maria graduated from Allegany High School, Class of 2005, attended the University of Maryland, College Park, and Frostburg State University, and graduated from Allegany College of Maryland as a Registered Nurse.  She worked as a nurse at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center, Golden Living Center, and the Lions Center for Rehabilitation and Extended Care.  Maria attended the City Reach Church. 
 
Maria was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, and a respected and caring nurse.  Devoted to her family, she had a warm sense of humor, keen intelligence, and a deeply loving heart.  Maria will be profoundly missed by all who love her.
 
Maria is survived by her husband: Justin Layman; her children: Ariel Lowery, Chase Layman and Faith Layman, and her stepdaughter: Adrianna Layman, all at home; her brother: Thomas A. Farrell and significant other, Ashley Peterson, Lusby, MD; and a niece: Marcella Farrell.
 
Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, MD, on Thursday, June 15, 2017, from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.
 
A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday, June 16, 2017, at 10:00 A.M., with Reverend Fred Timbrook, Jr., officiating.
 
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Saint Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Saint Jude Tribute Program, Post Office Box #100, Dept. #142, Memphis, TN  38148-0142.

I knew Maria as a bright, inquisitive young nursing student who developed into a kind, compassionate nurse. She was a wonderful advocate for my sister during her hospitalization. My heart is sadden with her passing. My sympathies for her family.

I'm so very sorry for your loss! There is nothing I can say to ease the pain, Maria was a very sweet young lady! I'll never forget her smiling face sitting in the front row of my class! Rest easy and my thoughts and prayers are with you!

My favorite memory of Maria was at our wedding on October 10 of 1998.  We had the most famous guests in attendance with her... Elvis and Prince.  I bet they are singing happy birthday to you today in heaven.  Maria had a very good sense of humor and was always a great conversationalist.  We will miss you, Maria and we are so very sad.  Love Aunt Ginger, Uncle Gregg, cousins Fallon and Tory.

Tom, Krystyna, Tommy, Susie and John- My heart breaks for all of you! I am so very sorry for your loss, your pain & your impalpable grief. I had just recently met and started working with Maria, I knew she was a Shining Star. My condolences, thoughts and prayers go out to her family and loved ones. Fly High Sweet, Gentle Soul.

I use to work with Maria at WMHS. She was a great nurse and I enjoyed working with her. She will be missed.

Maria, I love you. Always will. Our countless 2 am phone calls, Our unjudgemental, trustworthy, n limitless support for each other. Which is rare these days. I'm going to miss my confidante n bridesmaid. My wedding won't be the same without my Maria there, but I know you will be there celebrating with me!!! Please watch over your loved ones, n me n my boys as well. We need you guiding us our angel!! Once again, I love you for you, always have always will! Rest peacefully!
