James William Whetstone Saturday, December 12, 1942 - Wednesday, February 1, 2017

Frostburg, MD – James William Whetstone, 74, of Frostburg, MD, passed away Wednesday, February 1, 2017, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.
 
Born December 12, 1942, in Frostburg, MD, Mr. Whetstone was the son of the late George Whetstone and Margaret (Skelley) Whetstone.  He was also preceded in death by his brothers: George, Charles, and Joseph Whetstone; his sisters: Ruth Dudley, Roselie Kyler, Maxine Lyons, Judy Crissinger; his grandson: Wayne Whetstone; his dog: Pippi; and was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
 
James retired from Frostburg State University as Supervisor of Housekeeping with 25 years of service.  He loved spending time at the river fishing with his grandchildren.  He also enjoyed hunting, camping, and yard sales.
 
James is survived by his wife of 54 years: Sheila Ann (Thomas) Whetstone; and his children: Jeff Whetstone and Linda; Mark Whetstone and wife, Tondia; James Whetstone and wife, Mary; Glenda Whetstone and Brian; Kim Lowman and husband, Allen; and Shane Whetstone and Pam.  He also leaves behind his grandchildren: Marsha, Jimmy, Jeffery, Eric, Joseph, Joshua, Karina, Rachaell, Erin, Misty, Michael, Hannah, and Shane; 18 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and his dog: Bear.
 
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2017, at 2:00 P.M., at Bishop Murray Hall, Lonaconing, MD, with Reverend George Harpold officiating.
