Helen Jean (Gilpin) Legeer Wednesday, December 19, 1928 - Friday, July 14, 2017

LaVale, MD – Helen Jean (Gilpin) Legeer, 88, of LaVale, MD, passed away Friday, July 14, 2017 at her home.

Born December 19, 1928, in Frostburg, MD, Mrs. Legeer was the daughter of the late Harry Gilpin, Sr. and Grace (Ours) Gilpin.  She was also preceded in death by her husbands: John G. Brant and Lue Legeer; a son:  Kenneth Frankenberry and wife Agnes; a daughter:  Zondra McCoy; a grandson:  Jonathan Combs; and a brother:  Harry Gilpin, Jr.

A 1946 Graduate of Beall High School and an Alumnus of Allegany High School, Helen worked at Gee Bees and Westins Stores.  She was member and former choir director of LaVale Baptist Church and formerly at Central Assembly of God Church.  She loved traveling, singing, and playing her organ.

Helen is survived by her daughter:  Caren Combs and husband Robert; her grandchildren:  Michele Zimmer and husband Jeff; Renee Buckbee and husband Benny; Brian McCoy; Jeff Combs; Michael Frankenberry and wife Tonia; Wendy Combs and significant other Trey; Christopher Frankenberry and wife Kristine; thirteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson; her sisters:  Thelma Saathoff; and Jelene Bridges; and her faithful canine companion:  Boo; as well as several step-daughters and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, MD, (www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com) on Monday July 17, 2017 from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. and from 7:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M.

A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Jim Jeffries officiating.

Interment will be in Mt. Savage United Methodist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in her name to LaVale Baptist Church, 1115 National Highway, LaVale, MD  21502.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the WMHS-Hospice Program and the caregivers who helped with mom during her illness.

Helen was such a lovely lady generous and could never say no.  When I moved into her neighborhood across the street Helen and Lue welcomed me with warm opened arms.  Damn I hate to see you go.
